Tel Aviv, Israel – In a statement reflecting the fragility of recent regional understandings, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir declared that Israeli forces remain “ready” to resume direct confrontation with Iran. He emphasized that the current relative calm does not signify the end of the conflict, but is merely a “temporary pause” that could collapse at any moment.
Iran: A conflict hanging on the brink of explosion
During a speech on Friday, Zamir explained that the Israeli army is closely monitoring Iranian movements and the extent of compliance with recent agreements. He stated firmly, “We are in a state of ceasefire with Iran, but we can return to conflict at any moment and in a very forceful manner.” These remarks came just hours after threats from US President Donald Trump, who vowed to take “deadly action” against Tehran if the agreement is not fully implemented. This suggests a high level of coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv to maintain military pressure as a tool of political leverage.
Lebanon: An open battlefront
While Zamir described the situation with Iran as a “ceasefire,” he was clear in his distinction between the two fronts. He asserted that “Lebanon is currently our main arena of conflict.” He also emphasized that the Israeli army continues its combat operations there without pause. This on-the-ground confirmation comes as Israeli airstrikes continue to target towns in southern Lebanon, amid reports of hundreds of civilian casualties. Military analysts believe that Zamir’s strategy relies on “isolating the arenas,” effectively freezing the confrontation with the “head” in Tehran. Meanwhile, strikes against “peripherals” in Lebanon are intensified to dismantle Hezbollah’s capabilities.
