Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, has signed a research, development, and operational agreement with Minx, a company specializing in mining and mineral processing technologies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The agreement includes the design, development and operation of an advanced machine enhanced with artificial intelligence for sorting raw materials. Designed to improve the quality of low-concentration mineral materials and transform them into export-ready products.
Under the agreement, the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy will develop and operate a metal primary processing unit enhanced with artificial intelligence. Which includes machine learning models owned exclusively by the Academy, in addition to specialized supporting devices.
The unit will be adopted into the metal processing workflow at MINX operations sites. With the aim of improving extraction rates, enhancing operational efficiency, and generating value from mineral materials that were not previously economically viable.
Extensive operational presence
This cooperation combines the capabilities of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy in the fields of applied research and artificial intelligence, and the broad operational presence of Minx in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This agreement is in line with the broader strategic direction of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It comes after the signing of a preliminary agreement to develop and operate a multi-purpose terminal in the country’s Matadi port.
The integration of port infrastructure and the enhancement of value in the initial stages of the supply chain by supporting artificial intelligence technologies contribute to consolidating the role of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group as an integrated enabler of trade.
In addition, this cooperation highlights Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s growing contribution to African markets, while expanding its impact beyond port infrastructure and logistics. By employing advanced digital technologies to create added value across industrial sectors.
A vital regional trade portal
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is strategically located in the heart of Central Africa. Which makes it a vital regional trade gateway.
These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to strengthening the country’s connection to global markets and supporting long-term sustainable economic development.
