Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a dangerous military escalation that undermines recently announced hopes for de-escalation, Iran launched a series of large-scale missile and drone attacks targeting the Gulf region. This confirms Tehran’s disregard for the ceasefire agreement reached with the United States. The UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain announced on Wednesday afternoon that their air defenses had intercepted successive waves of attacks targeting vital and oil installations.
UAE: Air defenses protect sovereignty
The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that it is currently dealing with missile and drone attacks originating from Iran. In an official statement, the Ministry explained that its advanced air defense systems successfully intercepted ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as suicide drones. The Ministry reassured citizens and residents that the sounds heard in various parts of the country were a result of the successful interceptions. It affirmed the readiness of the armed forces to address any threats to the security and stability of the nation.
Kuwait: Direct targeting of infrastructure
For its part, the Kuwaiti army announced that it had encountered an “intense wave” of hostile Iranian attacks that began at 8:00 AM on Wednesday. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense confirmed that it had engaged 28 drones, intercepting and destroying a significant number of them. The Kuwaiti statement also revealed that the attacks directly targeted vital oil installations, power plants, and water desalination facilities. This resulted in “significant material damage” to oil infrastructure and power stations. This move is seen as an attempt to cripple the Kuwaiti economy.
Bahrain: 37 enemy targets intercepted
In Manama, Bahrain’s National Communications Center announced that the Bahrain Defense Force’s air defense systems engaged in fierce engagements over the past 24 hours. The center confirmed the interception and destruction of six missiles and 31 drones targeting vital areas within the Kingdom. It also emphasized that Bahraini forces are on high alert to repel any future aggression. These coordinated attacks threaten to derail the two-week truce before the Islamabad negotiations scheduled for next Friday. Observers believe that Tehran’s deliberate targeting of energy and desalination facilities in the Gulf states represents an escalation that transcends traditional rules of engagement. This pushes the region toward a full-blown confrontation, raising questions about the viability of diplomatic efforts in light of the continued indiscriminate Iranian bombardment. This bombardment targets civilian infrastructure and economic facilities belonging to fellow Arab nations.
