Washington, DC – Axios, citing four sources familiar with the matter, reported that negotiations between the United States and Iran have made progress in the past 24 hours.
However, the chances of reaching an agreement before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump remain slim.
White House focus shift
Officials explained that the discussion within the White House has shifted from the possibility of reaching
an agreement to the ability to finalize one before the Tuesday evening deadline.
They also confirmed that mediators are exerting significant pressure and that the talks are progressing seriously.
However, the final decision rests with the Iranian side.
Sources indicated that the discussions included the possibility of a direct meeting
between a U.S. delegation, headed by Vice President Jay D. Vance, and an Iranian delegation.
This move aims to expedite the negotiations and ensure direct communication channels between the two sides before the deadline.
Trump’s threat and the persistence of hope
Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that “an entire civilization will be wiped out tonight” if Iran did not respond, indicating that Tehran still had time to make its decision.
At the same time, Trump left the door open to a possible solution, asserting that “something extraordinary could happen,”
in an attempt to maintain a diplomatic option alongside his potential military threat.
This development comes amid ongoing regional tensions.
Furthermore, there is growing international concern about
a potential escalation should negotiations between Washington and Tehran fail.
Nevertheless, all parties emphasize the need to find a solution
that protects regional security and the stability of global maritime navigation.
