Tel Aviv, Israel – In an unprecedented military and intelligence escalation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today the success of an assassination operation targeting the top operational commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
In an official message via the “X” platform, Netanyahu confirmed that the recent operation in Iran resulted in the death of Asghar Bagheri, commander of Unit 840 of the Quds Force. He also mentioned the death of Majid Khademi, the head of the intelligence service, whose death was announced earlier today.
Who is Sardar Bagheri?
The Israeli army revealed in a detailed statement that the slain commander operated under the alias “Sardar Bagheri,” while his real name was “Yazdan Mir.” According to the statement released by Netanyahu, Bagheri was “the top official responsible for planning and directing operations against Jews and Israelis worldwide.” He also emphasized that Israel’s ability to reach such high-ranking figures in the heart of Tehran represents a fundamental shift in the rules of engagement.
Unit 840: The Secret Arm of Terrorism
Unit 840 is considered one of the most secretive branches within the Quds Force. The Israeli military has previously described it as an “operational unit specializing in directing and supporting attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets inside and outside Israel.”
This unit is also responsible for recruiting foreign operatives and carrying out cross-border assassinations and kidnappings. Consequently, its commander has become a constant strategic target for Western and Israeli intelligence agencies.
Netanyahu’s warning: “His blood is on his hands.”
Netanyahu’s announcement came in a sharp tone, carrying a direct warning to Tehran and its allies, as he said: “Anyone who takes action to kill our citizens, anyone who directs terrorism against the State of Israel, and anyone who forms an axis of evil with Iran, his blood is on his neck.”
