Tehran, Iran – The Fars News Agency, the media arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported on Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, the death of Mostafa Azizi, commander of the IRGC Navy in Khuzestan province. This official announcement confirmed earlier reports from the field indicating his death during a wave of airstrikes. US and Israeli forces launched airstrikes on strategic sites in southwestern Iran on Saturday.
Targeting elite leaders in Mahshahr
According to available information, Azizi was killed during the concentrated strikes targeting the petrochemical special economic zone in Mahshahr. This is a vital area containing major industrial complexes upon which Tehran relies to finance its military activities.
Informed sources indicated that Azizi was considered a high-ranking security official. He had previously served in the security detail of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and later held leadership positions in the navy. Azizi was not the only high-ranking casualty; his name was listed alongside other prominent commanders. These included Mehdi Mokhtari and Hassan Masjedi, who were reportedly killed at the same locations as a result of the bombing of naval command and control centers.
