Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced today that it had intercepted a cruise missile carrying a warhead weighing about 454 kilograms, before it reached its target in the city of Zanjan in northwestern Iran.
Details of the interception process
The Revolutionary Guard explained in a statement that the missile was of a “stealth and long-range” type, and that it was detected and successfully dealt with by air defense systems, as it was destroyed in the airspace of the targeted city without causing any damage.
Accusations of using advanced missiles
The Revolutionary Guard stated that the United States uses Tomahawk cruise missiles in its military operations, while Israel relies on Bullseye missiles launched from warplanes.
American media reports also mentioned the use of cruise missiles in a previous attack targeting facilities inside Iran.
Continuous escalation in the military confrontation
This development comes amid escalating military confrontations between Iran on one side, and the United States and Israel on the other, since the end of February, with both sides exchanging missile and drone attacks.
The Revolutionary Guard also announced targeting sites it described as American interests in countries in the region, while some of these attacks resulted in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, prompting condemnation from the affected countries.
