Cairo, Egypt – Egypt strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of the law authorizing the execution of Palestinian prisoners. It considered this move a dangerous and unprecedented escalation,
a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and a breach of fundamental guarantees of a fair trial.
In an official statement, Egypt affirmed that this legislation reflects a systematic discriminatory approach
and reinforces what it described as apartheid policies.
This is achieved through the discriminatory application of the law between Palestinians and others,
which contradicts the principles of justice and equality before the law.
Serious legal violation
The statement emphasized that the law represents a clear violation of the existing legal status in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Israeli legislation does not apply to Palestinian citizens in the West Bank, rendering this measure legally invalid.
Egypt also considered the passage of such legislation a deliberate disregard for international conventions.
Moreover, it undermines the foundations of the international legal order.
Warnings of the repercussions of escalation
Egypt reiterated its warnings against continued Israeli violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, particularly in light of the current military escalation. It emphasized that this law would increase tensions and complicate efforts to contain the crisis.
It noted that these unilateral measures could exacerbate the security and humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories.
Call for international action
Egypt called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities.
It urged the international community to take firm and immediate action to halt these violations
and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and the preservation of their legitimate rights.
Egypt also reiterated its categorical rejection of all unilateral Israeli policies and measures.
It called for adherence to international law and for efforts to achieve stability in the region.
