Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that its security forces had successfully dealt a decisive double blow to the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization. The operation included thwarting a large-scale sabotage plot by the armed group “Hasm.” Simultaneously, one of the group’s most prominent leaders, who had fled the country, was apprehended.
Retrieving “Abdel Wanis” from the depths of Africa
In an intelligence operation that demonstrated the long reach of the state, the Ministry announced the successful extradition of prominent Muslim Brotherhood leader Ali Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel-Wanis, a senior figure in the armed group “Hasm.” This was achieved in coordination with authorities in an African country.
The statement indicated that Abdel-Wanis is considered a highly dangerous leader. He is wanted by security forces for his convictions in major terrorism cases related to inciting violence, orchestrating assassinations, and sabotaging vital infrastructure. His extradition represents a significant blow to the organization’s supply lines and leadership abroad.
Giza raid and terrorists killed
On the ground, security forces thwarted a terrorist plot that the group intended to carry out to target public facilities and terrorize citizens.
The Interior Ministry statement explained that precise intelligence led to the identification of a hideout belonging to terrorist elements in Giza Governorate. Upon raiding the location, the terrorists opened fire on the forces. As a result, a response was necessary, and two terrorists from the group were killed.
The Ministry expressed its deep sorrow for the death of a civilian who happened to be in the vicinity of the clashes. It also announced that a police officer from the participating force was wounded and subsequently transferred to the hospital for treatment. Forces are continuing to comb the area to ensure complete security. These simultaneous operations underscore the Egyptian security forces’ ability to monitor and contain the movements of terrorist organizations both domestically and internationally.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that the sacrifices of police officers and civilians only strengthen the state’s resolve to eradicate extremism and protect the nation’s resources. It affirmed its continued pursuit of all fugitive elements to bring them to justice, safeguarding Egyptian national security and consolidating stability.
