Muscat, Oman – In a significant security development affecting maritime security and vital installations in the region, the Sultanate of Oman announced that a crane at the strategic port of Salalah sustained minor damage. This followed an attack by two drones that directly targeted the port area.
The official Oman News Agency published a brief statement on its X platform account, quoting a high-ranking security source as saying: “A security source reported that the port of Salalah was targeted by two drones. The incident resulted in moderate injuries to an expatriate worker at the port, in addition to minor damage to one of the cranes in the port facilities as a result of the explosion.”
In its official statement, the Sultanate strongly condemned these “heinous attacks” targeting one of the most vital ports in the Arabian Sea. It emphasized that it will not tolerate any infringement upon its sovereignty and territory. The statement added that Omani authorities “have taken all necessary measures to maintain the security of the country and the safety of its residents.” Security has also been heightened around economic and maritime facilities to ensure continued operations and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
It is worth noting that the Port of Salalah is a pivotal hub for maritime transport and logistics, connecting Asian and European markets. Targeting it represents a worrying escalation regarding the security of international waterways. The relevant security agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the source of the drones and the parties behind this attack, which aims to destabilize the region.
