Damascus, Syria – The Quneitra countryside witnessed a new escalation of Israeli military activity in recent hours. Israeli artillery, positioned within the occupied Golan Heights, targeted the vicinity of Tel al-Ahmar al-Sharqi in the southern part of the province. Field sources reported that two artillery shells landed near a gathering of shepherds in the area, causing panic, though no casualties were reported.
Repeated targeting of civilians and herders
The escalation was not limited to artillery shelling; it was preceded by a series of violations against civilians. Israeli forces arrested a young man and a child while they were herding sheep near Tel al-Ahmar al-Gharbi. Although they were later released, the area also witnessed direct gunfire directed at other shepherds. This appears to be a clear attempt to intimidate the local population and prevent them from accessing their lands near the ceasefire line.
Bree penetrated into “Jabbata al-Khashab”
In a significant development in the northern countryside, an Israeli ground force conducted a limited incursion into the town of Jaba al-Khashab. The invading force stormed a residential building and carried out a thorough search before withdrawing back towards the occupied territories. This constitutes a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and a crossing of all red lines.
Violation of the “disengagement” agreement
These moves come as Syria continues to appeal to the international community to intervene and halt Israel’s repeated provocations. Damascus asserts that these violations constitute a direct breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. It warns of the repercussions of this ongoing escalation, which threatens the security and stability of the entire region, amidst international silence regarding these daily transgressions.
