Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that it has raised the state of emergency to its highest level in all hospitals and health centers.
This comes in anticipation of severe weather expected on Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 and 26, 2026,
with all departments and medical staff directed to be fully prepared to deal with any emergency.
Extensive emergency plan
The Ministry of Health implemented a comprehensive plan that included deploying 2,400 ambulances across the country.
It also allocated 48 four-wheel-drive vehicles for desert and mountainous areas,
and 11 ambulance launches to secure Nile islands.
Ambulance stations were reinforced on highways and rural roads,
and deployments were increased in coastal governorates most vulnerable to severe weather.
This was done to ensure a rapid response to any reports or potential incidents.
Strengthening medical stockpiles and emergency plans
The Ministry’s official spokesperson, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, confirmed that the measures
included ensuring the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies in sufficient quantities.
Blood bank stocks of all types were also replenished, and electricity generators and water tanks in hospitals were inspected.
Furthermore, evacuation plans were updated to guarantee a rapid response in critical cases.
Warnings to citizens and increased coordination
The Ministry has increased coordination with emergency services and civil defense,
while also bolstering communication networks through the national emergency network.
Approximately 300 flood channels and natural depressions have been identified.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution and avoid areas where water accumulates or flood channels.
The readiness of crisis management centers and the 137 emergency hotline has also been confirmed
to receive reports and health-related inquiries, ensuring everyone’s safety during severe weather conditions.
