Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a strongly worded statement reflecting Gulf unity and escalating regional concern, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reiterated its condemnation and absolute denunciation of the continued and repeated Iranian attacks targeting GCC member states.
The Council affirmed that these attacks, including the deliberate and systematic targeting of vital infrastructure and oil facilities, constitute a flagrant violation of international law and diplomatic norms. They also pose a direct threat not only to the security and stability of the region, but also to the safety of global energy supplies and the international economy.
Al-Badawi: Escalatory approach and false claims
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, stated that the continuation of these attacks clearly reveals “the Iranian government’s increasingly escalatory approach towards its neighbors in the GCC countries.”
Al-Budaiwi described these actions as “an act of aggression that is completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that they undermine all efforts towards de-escalation and dialogue. He also stressed that they jeopardize regional and international security. The Secretary-General refuted recent Iranian claims, asserting that “the allegations attempting to hold the GCC countries responsible for any military operations taking place in the region are baseless and categorically rejected, and have no foundation in truth or reality.” He considered this an attempt to distort the facts and justify the ongoing violations.
Commitment to sovereignty and the right of legitimate defense
Al-Badawi pointed out that since its inception, the GCC states have pursued firm and principled policies based on respect for the sovereignty of states, adherence to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and tireless efforts to strengthen the foundations of security and peace. However, he delivered a firm message stating that “the GCC states reserve their full right, guaranteed under Article 51 of the UN Charter and the provisions of international law, to take all necessary sovereign measures and actions to protect their security and stability, safeguard the resources of their people and their national wealth, and respond appropriately to these attacks.”
Call for deterrent international action
In closing, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called upon the international community, particularly major powers and global security organizations, to “assume their legal and moral responsibilities in condemning these attacks and to take a firm and deterrent stance that puts an end to the disregard for regional security.” The Council also demanded immediate pressure to compel Iran to strictly comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which is essential to halting the violations and ensuring the stability of the region. The Council concluded its statement by affirming “the unity of the GCC states and their complete solidarity in the face of any threat to their security and supreme interests.” Furthermore, it reiterated its unwavering commitment to joint action to enhance the stability of the Arabian Gulf region and to fulfill the aspirations of its peoples for peace and development, free from the language of threats and aggression.
