Tehran, Iran – The confrontation between Iran and Israel has entered a more dangerous phase, with Tehran announcing a missile strike targeting the area around the southern Israeli city of Dimona.
This came in response to the bombing of the Natanz nuclear facility, which resulted in dozens of injuries.
The attack has also led to growing fears of potential nuclear repercussions.
A missile hits Dimona and the interception fails
Israeli sources reported that an Iranian ballistic missile struck the city of Dimona, thwarting several attempts by air defense systems to intercept it.
The attack injured 54 people, some critically, and caused extensive damage to residential buildings.
Ambulance crews confirmed that the injured were transported to hospitals.
Reports also indicated widespread destruction and that some people were trapped inside buildings.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the attack.
Natanz is at the heart of the nuclear escalation
The Iranian strike came hours after Tehran announced that its Natanz uranium
enrichment facility had been attacked again, blaming the United States and Israel.
At the same time, it asserted that no radioactive leak or risks to the population had been detected.
The Natanz site is one of Iran’s most important nuclear facilities and has been targeted in a series of attacks recently.
This reflects an escalation in the targeting of nuclear infrastructure within the context of the ongoing conflict between the two sides.
International warnings of nuclear danger
Amid this escalation, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reiterated its call for restraint,
warning of the dangers of targeting nuclear facilities during armed conflicts.
Such attacks could lead to radiological accidents that threaten the region.
Russia also condemned the attack on the Natanz facility, deeming it a violation of international law
and calling for a clear international assessment of what it described as behavior that threatens regional security and stability.
These developments reflect the entry of the Iranian-Israeli conflict into a sensitive phase.
In this phase, the confrontation has moved to targeting strategic and nuclear facilities.
This increases the likelihood of the conflict widening and its repercussions on regional and international security.
