Cairo, Egypt – Al-Azhar strongly condemned on Tuesday the continued Iranian attacks on the UAE and other Gulf states. Al-Azhar described these attacks as “unjustified” and a threat to the security and stability of the region.
Widespread condemnation of attacks on neighboring countries
Al-Azhar affirmed that Iranian attacks targeted a number of Arab and Islamic countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. In addition, other countries such as Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, and Azerbaijan were also targeted. It emphasized its complete rejection of these attacks, which targeted countries that were not party to the conflict.
A call for an immediate halt and respect for sovereignty
Al-Azhar called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately cease all military operations unconditionally and to respect the sovereignty of nations and their territorial integrity. It also stressed the necessity of protecting the lives of innocent civilians who have no connection to the ongoing conflicts. Al-Azhar pointed out that targeting residential areas, airports, hospitals, and energy facilities constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. Furthermore, it contravenes Islamic principles that prohibit attacks on life and property.
Supporting diplomatic efforts and warning against the widening of the conflict
Al-Azhar welcomed the efforts of the Egyptian leadership to halt military operations in the region, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in ending the war and preventing its expansion. It also stressed the importance of prioritizing diplomatic solutions and dialogue to avoid further escalation. Al-Azhar expressed its solidarity with the families of the victims in the affected countries and emphasized the necessity of working to contain the crisis in order to preserve the region’s security and stability. It also stressed the importance of preventing the worsening of the humanitarian and economic repercussions of the conflict.
