Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali authorities announced the killing of nine terrorists during a military operation conducted by government forces in cooperation with special security units. The operation targeted suspected militant hideouts in a rural area of the country.
Security sources stated that the operation followed precise intelligence indicating the movements of terrorist elements planning attacks against military and civilian targets. This prompted Somali forces to act swiftly in a preemptive strike.
The sources added that the forces eliminated nine militants during the operation. Furthermore, several hideouts used to store weapons and ammunition were destroyed, and equipment and communication devices used for coordination among the terrorist elements were seized.
The Somali government confirmed that military operations against extremist groups are ongoing in several parts of the country, as part of a security strategy aimed at eliminating terrorist strongholds and strengthening stability.
Somalia has been waging an open war against militant organizations for years, most notably al-Shabaab, which is linked to al-Qaeda and carries out attacks targeting government forces and civilian infrastructure. This situation has prompted authorities to intensify their military operations to cut off the sources of terrorism and regain control of areas where these groups are active.
