Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie. The meeting focused on monitoring the Authority’s operations amidst current regional circumstances and reviewing the progress of ongoing development projects.
Confronting the repercussions of war
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that the meeting focused primarily on assessing the impact of the ongoing war in the Middle East on navigation through the Suez Canal.
Lieutenant General Osama Rabie reviewed the repercussions of the conflict on global supply chains. He affirmed that the Canal Authority had taken exceptional and urgent measures to raise the level of preparedness at all its sites to ensure the continued provision of navigational services around the clock.
For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the paramount importance of raising the level of readiness at all work sites related to navigation.
He also emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety procedures and the implementation of all necessary measures to guarantee the security of the Authority’s facilities and service sites. This is in anticipation of any emergencies that may arise as a result of regional tensions.
National projects and localization of industry
The meeting also addressed the implementation status of several ambitious projects, including the development of the Red Sea Shipyard, the tourist yacht factory, and the construction of the fishing vessel “Rizk,” in addition to the construction of marine tugboats and a river bus.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed that the established timelines for completing these projects be adhered to, in accordance with the highest international standards. This aims to ensure the quality and competitiveness of the services provided.
Digitalization and export promotion
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was briefed on the efforts to integrate digitalization and technology into the Authority’s operations. He emphasized the necessity for digital transformation to achieve its objectives of rationalizing spending and ensuring good governance and efficiency.
He also stressed the importance of collaborating with major international companies to localize the industry. Furthermore, he highlighted the need to enhance the international marketing of Egyptian seafood products to open new export opportunities and bolster the national economy.
