Doha, Qatar – The State of Qatar strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting the port of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman. It considered this escalation a “flagrant violation of international law” and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region. This comes amidst escalating tensions in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
In an official statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the safety of navigation and international trade. It stressed the necessity of respecting the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness. It also emphasized the importance of not endangering the security of states and civilian facilities.
Doha expressed its full solidarity with the Sultanate of Oman in the face of this attack. It affirmed its support for all measures taken by Muscat to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability. It also emphasized the importance of safeguarding ports and vital facilities, which are crucial arteries for trade and energy in the region.
Qatar stressed the importance of international action to halt the escalating tensions in the Middle East. It warned that continued attacks on ports and economic facilities could lead to widespread disruption of international trade, particularly given the sensitivity of maritime routes near the Arabian Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.
This stance comes at a time of growing regional concerns about a widening conflict in the region, following a series of attacks targeting energy facilities and strategic ports. This raises global concerns about the security of energy supplies and the stability of international shipping lanes.
