Doha, Qatar – The State of Qatar has notified the United Nations and the Security Council of Iranian attacks against it, asserting that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a serious threat to the region’s security and stability. Doha also emphasized its right to respond in accordance with international laws and conventions.
In an official statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Doha submitted an urgent memorandum to the United Nations detailing the Iranian attacks targeting its territory. It affirmed that these developments represent an unjustified escalation that threatens regional security. Furthermore, these attacks exacerbate tensions in the Middle East.
The statement added that Qatar strongly condemns any attack on its sovereignty or threat to the security of its citizens and residents. The statement also stressed that such actions constitute a clear violation of the UN Charter and contravene the principles of international law that prohibit the use of force against sovereign states.
Doha affirmed its full right to take all necessary measures to respond to these attacks in a manner that safeguards its national security and preserves its sovereignty. It also indicated that any response would be within the framework of international law and the legitimate right to self-defense.
At the same time, Qatar called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in halting the escalating tensions in the region. It also urged action to contain the tensions and prevent the situation from spiraling into further military confrontations that could threaten international maritime security and the stability of energy markets.
This Qatari move comes at a time of unprecedented tension in the region, with the escalating military confrontation between Iran and Israel. The situation is also witnessing an expansion in the scope of retaliatory strikes and attacks. This raises international concerns about the conflict escalating into a wider regional confrontation with repercussions that could extend to several countries in the Middle East.
