Amman, Jordan – The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan accused Iran on Saturday of directly and deliberately targeting its vital facilities. The kingdom asserted that the attacks the country suffered last week were not merely airspace violations. Instead, they were targeted strategic sites within Jordanian territory.
Direct targeting and military response
At a press conference held today, Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hayari, Director of Military Media, revealed that Iran targeted the Kingdom with 119 missiles and drones in a single week. He further explained that the Royal Jordanian Air Force successfully intercepted and destroyed 108 of these targets.
Brigadier General Al-Hayari emphasized that “these missiles and drones were directed at purely Jordanian targets, and were not incoming missiles as some might think.” He also indicated that they targeted vital and sensitive sites and facilities.
Breach of neutrality and defensive cooperation
The Jordanian Armed Forces condemned these attacks on the Kingdom, despite Amman’s prior notification to all parties that Jordan “will not be a battleground for anyone.” They also affirmed that Jordan will not allow its territory to be used as a launching pad for attacks against Iran.
Furthermore, Al-Hayari revealed that Jordan has activated military and defense cooperation agreements with several allied countries. These agreements have been activated to provide the broadest possible air cover to protect the Kingdom’s airspace. In addition, the combat readiness level of all formations and units has been raised to immediate alert.
Civilian casualties and damage
For his part, Public Security Directorate spokesman Colonel Amer Sartawi announced that shrapnel from the clashes in various governorates resulted in injuries to 14 people. He also reported that 207 pieces of shrapnel caused material damage to homes and civilian vehicles.
These developments place Jordan in direct confrontation with the security repercussions of the regional conflict. This underscores its determination to protect its sovereignty and national assets by all available means. Border Guard units are also being reinforced with the necessary equipment and supplies to deal with these exceptional circumstances.
