Doha, Qatar – The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced today that it had thwarted an aerial attack targeting several areas within the country. It confirmed that the Emiri Air Force shot down two Su-24 fighter jets. The ministry stated that the aircraft originated from the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that this action was part of its response to a wave of aerial and missile threats.
Two aircraft shot down and ballistic missiles intercepted
The Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted the Ministry as saying that air defense systems simultaneously intercepted seven ballistic missiles before they reached their targets. It added that the threats were dealt with immediately upon detection by early warning systems, in accordance with the pre-approved operational plan.
Five drones shot down and joint coordination
The statement added that the Amiri Air Force and Navy also successfully intercepted and shot down five drones. It explained that the high level of preparedness, security vigilance, and joint coordination among the various concerned parties contributed to containing the attack and preventing casualties. The ministry did not mention any injuries or material damage.
Confirming readiness and urging people not to be swayed by rumors
The Qatari Ministry of Defense emphasized that the armed forces possess the full capabilities and resources to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and protect its airspace and territory. It also affirmed its readiness to decisively confront any external threat. The Ministry called upon citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm and adhere to the instructions issued by the relevant authorities. It further requested that the public refrain from circulating rumors or unverified information and rely solely on official statements issued by the concerned parties.
