Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump revealed new details regarding his strategy for ending the military confrontation with Iran. He confirmed that he has several options for determining the form and conclusion of the military operations that began in recent days.
Trump’s statements: Between a quick resolution or long-term control
In an interview from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump said he was considering “several exit strategies,” including:
“Continuing operations and maintaining full control” for an indefinite period.
“Ending the war in two or three days” while sending a clear message to Tehran that it would be dealt with decisively if it resumed its nuclear and missile programs.
Trump added that Iran would need years to recover from the current strikes. He also suggested that a swift option might be more effective than a protracted war.
Reasons and an administrative perspective on war
Trump’s remarks came after US and Israeli forces launched strikes on strategic targets inside Iran. This was in response to threats from Tehran and to prevent the advancement of its nuclear and missile programs.
Trump indicated that nuclear negotiations were close to reaching an agreement, but Iran backed out at the last minute. This prompted his administration to resort to military action as a last resort. Trump’s statements reflect an attempt to strike a “difficult balance between military pressure and leaving room for a diplomatic option.” Analysts believe the goal is to “avoid a long and costly war, both politically and militarily.” These statements also portray the president as a decisive decision-maker in times of crisis.
