Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was dissatisfied with Iran’s stance but was seeking an agreement with the country. He also warned that “sometimes military force must be used” if Iran continues its intransigence regarding its nuclear program.
Diplomatic pressure and negotiations
Trump’s remarks came before his departure for Texas, at a time of a significant US military buildup in the region. This followed the conclusion of a round of negotiations in Geneva between US envoys Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner and Iranian officials, which ended without a concrete agreement.
Possible military options
Trump told reporters that the United States has “the greatest military in the world,” adding, “I wish I didn’t have to use it, but sometimes you have to.” He confirmed that discussions about Iran would continue. He also noted that Oman had expanded its mediation efforts between the two sides, sending its foreign minister to Washington for talks with US Vice President J.D. Vance.
US administration assessment of the situation
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to the agency that Trump has “complete clarity on all available options,” adding that confronting Iran would be more complex than previous operations such as the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. However, the source also indicated internal pessimism regarding the success of the current negotiations.
