Kabul, Afghanistan – The Afghan army announced today that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed during fierce clashes along the border between the two countries. It confirmed that it had seized control of several military posts and positions previously held by Pakistani forces.
Afghan media outlets quoted an official statement saying that the clashes were in response to
what it described as “repeated attacks” from the Pakistani side.
The statement indicated that Afghan forces carried out coordinated operations
that inflicted heavy losses on the Pakistani army.
Light and medium weapons and equipment were also captured.
Afghan forces’ control
The Afghan army statement explained that the clashes were concentrated
in disputed border areas and involved the use of heavy weapons.
The fighting ended with Afghan forces capturing several military posts and establishing a security cordon around them.
There has been no official comment yet from Islamabad on this news.
Pakistani military sources are also remaining silent regarding the extent of
the casualties or the nature of the developments on the ground.
mutual accusations
These developments come amid escalating tensions between the two countries’ militaries,
with each accusing the other of border violations and supporting armed groups.
This further complicates the security situation in the region, particularly given the ongoing instability since the Taliban seized power in Kabul.
Observers believe that the exchange of accusations and the intensification of clashes foreshadow a dangerous escalation that could spiral out of control.
This will only happen if the situation is contained through urgent diplomatic and security channels in a region considered one of the most volatile hotspots in South Asia.
