Amman, Jordan – Jordanian Speaker of Parliament Mazen al-Qadi affirmed the House’s categorical rejection of statements made by the US ambassador to Israel, describing them as “delusions” aimed at legitimizing Israel’s control over Arab lands. He also warned that they open the door to further extremism and violence in the region.
Al-Qadi considered these statements a blatant violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter. He added that they also constitute a serious infringement on the sovereignty of states and the stability of the region.
Rejected religious narratives
During Monday’s parliamentary session, he emphasized that the West Bank and Gaza Strip are exclusively Palestinian territories. He affirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over them or any other occupied Arab land.
The judge stressed that proposals based on religious narratives are completely unacceptable,
as they undermine the chances for a just and comprehensive peace. This peace must be based on the two-state solution.
The Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament indicated that such a statement from an official representing a major power places his country in a position that threatens regional security.
Furthermore, the statement fuels the conflict rather than containing it.
