Tehran, Iran – In an unprecedented escalation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry labeled the naval and air forces of several European countries as “terrorist organizations.” It asserted that their military movements in international waters and the airspace surrounding Iran constitute a “direct threat to regional security.”
In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the European military presence in certain vital maritime routes, particularly those near the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, cannot be considered “defensive.” Rather, it falls within the framework of “organized provocation” and attempts to exert political and military pressure on Tehran.
The statement added that any European military cooperation with the United States or regional actors against Iranian interests will be met with an appropriate response. The statement stressed that Iran “will not compromise on protecting its sovereignty and national security.”
This declaration comes amidst escalating tensions between Tehran and several European capitals over multiple issues, most notably the Iranian nuclear program and military movements in strategic waterways. All of this foreshadows further complications in the regional and international security landscape in the coming period.
