Washington, DC – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on Thursday that there is no “Plan B” for the Gaza Strip outside the framework of the efforts led by the “Peace Council” established by President Donald Trump, coinciding with the council’s inaugural meeting in Washington.
“We have to do this right. There is no Plan B for Gaza. The Plan B is a return to war. Nobody here wants that,” Rubio said during the opening session, emphasizing the need to solidify the fragile ceasefire that began last October.
Efforts to Strengthen the Ceasefire
The new council aims to coordinate international efforts to support stability in the Gaza Strip and bolster the de-escalation process, amid US efforts to establish political and security arrangements that prevent a resumption of fighting.
Rubio’s remarks come as international consultations intensify regarding the future of the Strip and the mechanisms for managing the next phase, including reconstruction and security arrangements, against the backdrop of ongoing political and field challenges.
