New York, USA – The United Nations condemned Israel’s attempts to annex more West Bank territory, stating that the decision to expand land confiscation constitutes an act of aggression under international law. It also asserted that the move reflects a deliberate effort to impose a permanent reality on the ground.
A firm stance against annexation measures
The international organization affirmed that the annexation of occupied territory is categorically prohibited under international law and the UN Charter. It stressed that any unilateral steps that alter the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territory constitute a clear violation of international law.
It added that recent Israeli actions represent gradual and deliberate steps toward the permanent annexation of the West Bank. This undermines the prospects for a two-state solution and threatens regional stability.
Warning of legal and political repercussions
The United Nations stressed that the expansion of land confiscation is inconsistent with Israel’s obligations as an occupying power. It affirmed that the international community does not recognize any unilateral changes to the 1967 borders unless agreed upon through direct negotiations between the parties.
This stance comes amid escalating tensions in the Palestinian territories. It also follows international warnings that the continuation of these policies could further complicate the political and security landscape and hinder efforts to resume the peace process.
