Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday evening that it had summoned the German ambassador to Tehran, Axel Dittmann. The ministry wanted to deliver a strongly worded protest note regarding what it described as “hostile actions” and positions taken by German officials towards Iran.
The essence of the Iranian protest
According to an official statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Tehran accused German authorities of adopting destructive positions. These positions were described as violating the principles of international law.
The statement also accused them of supporting hostile movements, without specifying details. However, the timing clearly points to recent events in Germany.
Observers link this diplomatic escalation to the massive rally held in Munich. It was one of the largest gatherings of the Iranian opposition abroad.
Tehran… and the Munich tsunami
Around 250,000 people participated in the rally in solidarity with the protest movement inside Iran.
It featured a prominent speech by Iran’s former Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi, who called for support for the Iranian people’s demands for change.
The summoning of the German ambassador comes at a time of escalating tensions in Iranian-European relations. Tehran accuses Western capitals of interfering in its internal affairs and inciting protesters. Meanwhile, Berlin insists on the right to peaceful protest and the protection of freedom of expression on its soil.
