Washington, DC – Two senior US officials revealed that more than 20 countries will participate in the first official meeting of the “Peace Council,” recently announced by US President Donald Trump. The meeting is scheduled for February 19 in Washington, DC.
According to the officials, Trump is expected to announce a multi-billion dollar plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip during the meeting. He will also share details regarding the UN-mandated stabilization force for the Palestinian territory.
Security arrangements
They indicated that the meeting will focus exclusively on developments in Gaza. This comes amid international efforts to establish new security and administrative arrangements following the war.
On January 23, during his participation in the Davos Forum, Trump signed documents establishing the “Peace Council.”
This was a move endorsed by a UN Security Council resolution as part of a broader plan for Gaza.
The announcement at the time raised questions about the council’s role and the possibility of extending its mandate to other conflicts around the world,
but officials confirmed that the agenda for the first meeting would be limited to the Palestinian issue.
Reconstruction of Gaza
An official explained that a key part of the meeting would be the announcement of
a multi-billion dollar fund for the reconstruction of Gaza, with financial contributions from participating countries.
He described the offers as “generous,” noting that the United States had not formally requested donations
but had received pledges of support from several countries.
The meeting’s agenda includes presentations on the work of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza,
which was established to assume the day-to-day civil administration of the Gaza Strip in place of Hamas,
as well as discussions on humanitarian aid and local police arrangements.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced during his recent visit to Washington that Israel would join the council. This signaled US-Israeli coordination regarding the next phase in Gaza.
