Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received MP Simon Abi Ramia, head of the Lebanese-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee, at the Presidential Palace. Abi Ramia briefed the President on the results of his political and diplomatic meetings during his recent visit to Paris. He also conveyed to Aoun the French position on Lebanon, particularly in light of preparations for the conference to support the Lebanese army, scheduled for March 5 in Paris. Abi Ramia further emphasized France’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability and its support for its legitimate institutions.
The meeting addressed the challenges facing the current administration, including the continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory and repeated attacks on Lebanon. The discussion also touched upon the issue of Lebanese prisoners in Syrian jails, with Abi Ramia noting his international efforts aimed at restoring Lebanon’s full sovereignty and securing the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanese territory. The issue of Lebanon’s monopoly on the use of force was also discussed, as it is a national principle and crucial for strengthening international confidence in Lebanon. Furthermore, the meeting addressed economic legislation and anticipated financial reforms aimed at restoring the rights of depositors.
The meeting addressed the upcoming parliamentary elections and the preparations underway by the executive branch, in accordance with constitutional deadlines and to strengthen the democratic process in the country. MP Abi Ramia affirmed his unwavering support for the President and the government. He also called for ensuring the basic needs of citizens and guaranteeing their rights across all sectors, thereby bolstering trust between the state and its citizens. This, he emphasized, would guarantee a minimum level of social and economic stability.
