Tehran, Iran – RIA Novosti, citing flight data, reported the detection of a US Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft and an MQ-4C Triton drone near the Iranian border. The agency stated that the P-8A took off from Bahrain and flew over the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the drone took off from Abu Dhabi and conducted patrols in the Gulf of Oman, in international waters close to Iran’s southeastern coast. This detection comes amid a continuous US escalation that began in late January 2026. This escalation included the deployment of a US naval fleet to the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. US Defense Secretary Pete Higseth also announced a reinforcement of forces in the region.
US President Donald Trump reiterated that Washington is demanding Iran sign an agreement that prevents it from acquiring nuclear weapons. He also warned that rejecting the agreement would be met with a “much more severe attack” than last summer’s. In this context, representatives from the United States and Iran held indirect talks in Oman last week. Trump described the negotiations as “going well and continuing.” Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed Tehran’s commitment to an agreement that uses nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes. He added that Iran maintains its right to enrich uranium, even if this leads to a potential escalation.
