Cairo, Egypt – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Egyptian Minister of Defense and Military Production, General Abdel Meguid Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, witnessed the deployment of Egyptian troops slated to participate in the African Union Mission to Support Peace and Security in the Federal Republic of Somalia (AMISOM). The ceremony was also attended by Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and a number of senior military commanders. This reflects Egypt’s leading role in strengthening the foundations of peace and security on the African continent.
High combat readiness and professional preparedness
The event began with a detailed presentation outlining the meticulous preparation and equipping procedures for the participating forces. The presentation showcased a high level of readiness and combat preparedness across various branches and specialties. The ceremony included field exercises demonstrating the strength of the Egyptian forces. These exercises proved their ability to efficiently execute assigned missions in diverse geographical conditions. Advanced models of military vehicles and equipment participating in the mission, specifically designed to support the stability and security of Somalia, were also displayed.
The military command affirmed that the forces have completed their training to a professional standard that ensures they can effectively carry out their missions under the auspices of the African Union.
