Seoul, South Korea – South Korean authorities have launched a broad investigation into drone activity after the National Intelligence Service, in cooperation with the military, conducted a series of raids targeting entities and locations suspected of involvement in the use or development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) outside of regulatory frameworks.

Media reports indicate that the raids were part of a comprehensive security review following growing concerns about the potential use of drones for espionage or other security threats, particularly given the escalating regional tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

According to informed sources, the raids focused on collecting digital evidence and examining technical equipment believed to be linked to sophisticated control systems. Investigators are also seeking to determine whether there have been violations of national security laws or the unauthorized transfer of sensitive technologies.

Authorities emphasized that the measures aim to strengthen domestic security and prevent any illegal use of drones. They also noted that evolving technology presents increasing challenges that necessitate stricter oversight and updated legislation governing the sector.

This move comes as South Korea is engaged in a rapid development of drone technology for both civilian and military purposes. This puts the relevant authorities in a delicate position between supporting innovation and protecting national security.
