Damascus, Syria – The Director of Arab Affairs at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, stated that his country is closely monitoring the situation of the Syrian community residing in Egypt, given recent reports circulating on social media regarding restrictions on Syrian entry. Al-Ahmad explained in a post on the X platform that the Ministry is giving this matter its utmost attention. He also noted that since the beginning of this year, intensive meetings have been held with Egyptian officials to coordinate efforts and overcome the obstacles facing Syrians residing there.
He added, “We have instructed our embassy in Cairo to provide the maximum possible consular and legal assistance, and we have submitted comprehensive technical proposals to the Egyptian authorities aimed at facilitating residency procedures for Syrians living in Egypt.” Al-Ahmad concluded by emphasizing that “the rights of Syrians and the protection of their interests abroad will always remain at the forefront of our diplomatic priorities.”
This statement comes at a time when a circular circulating on social media claims that a decision has been issued barring Syrian citizens with valid entry permits from entering Egyptian territory.
According to the unofficial circular, the measure applies to Syrians arriving from Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan, and will remain in effect until further notice. The circular, which has also been shared by some travel agencies, indicates that the decision does not apply to holders of Egyptian residency permits. It further states that Friday, February 6, 2026, was the last day those subject to the measure were permitted entry. No official confirmation has yet been issued by the relevant Egyptian authorities regarding the veracity of this information.
