Moscow, Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a video conference with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday, reaffirmed his continued support for both countries’ efforts to maintain their sovereignty, security, and prosperity. Sputnik news agency reported that Putin described economic cooperation between Russia and China as having “continued to develop steadily throughout 2025,” noting that the partnership between the two countries is “exemplary.” The Russian president also expressed his pleasure at maintaining the tradition of personal communication with Xi Jinping at the beginning of each year, saying, “Mr. President, my dear friend, I am delighted that we are continuing this good tradition, reviewing our achievements and making plans for the future.”
Regarding bilateral relations, Putin noted that “Russian-Chinese relations are flourishing year-round,” emphasizing that trade between the two countries has exceeded $200 billion for the third consecutive year. He also praised the Russian-Chinese partnership in the energy sector, describing it as “mutually beneficial and strategic in every sense of the word.”
