Cairo, Egypt – Egypt and Turkey signed a military cooperation agreement during an official ceremony held in Cairo, attended by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This step indicates the development of bilateral relations between the two countries at various levels. The two presidents witnessed the signing of several joint agreements and memoranda of understanding, most notably the “Framework Military Agreement” between the governments of Egypt and Turkey. This agreement aims to enhance cooperation in military and defense fields, exchange expertise, and support coordination mechanisms between the armed forces of the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Egyptian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Abdel Meguid Saqr and Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler. This came as a result of the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Egypt and Turkey, chaired by Presidents Sisi and Erdoğan. Prior to this, the two presidents signed a joint statement issued by the Council meeting. The statement emphasized the importance of continuing to develop bilateral relations and stressed the need to strengthen partnerships in the political, economic, security, and military fields, in a way that serves the interests of both nations and contributes to regional stability.

A formal welcoming ceremony was held, including the playing of the national anthems and a review of the guard of honor. This atmosphere reflected the depth of the historical relations between the two countries. The two presidents held an official meeting to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, most notably developments in the Middle East. The two sides also discussed ways to support security and stability in the region. The signing of the military agreement comes within the framework of a shared vision by Cairo and Ankara to open new horizons for strategic cooperation. Furthermore, the agreement aims to build a balanced partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests.
