Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump said that Iran is currently engaged in talks with the United States, indicating that the next few days will determine whether an understanding can be reached
between the two sides. This comes amid continued tensions and mutual threats.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump explained that communication with Tehran is ongoing.
He added, “Iran is talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something, otherwise we’ll see what happens,”
implicitly suggesting the possibility of escalation should the diplomatic track fail.
The US president did not rule out resorting to more stringent options if the contacts do not yield tangible results.
Possible negotiations between Iran and the United States
Trump criticized past negotiations with Iran, saying, “The last time we negotiated with them,
we had to destroy their nuclear facilities, and it didn’t work.”
This statement reflects his skepticism about the viability of any agreement that,
in his view, does not serve Washington’s interests and ensure the curbing of Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump’s remarks come as Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council,
spoke of “progress” in preparations for potential negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Despite this, the US continues to threaten the use of military force.
Larijani wrote in a post on the X platform that “the formulation of a framework
for negotiations is progressing, contrary to the artificial atmosphere created by the media.”
This was a reference to ongoing negotiations taking place away from the media escalation.
Possible US strike
Larijani’s statement comes after the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin met with him in Moscow.
This occurred amidst regional and international diplomatic efforts concerning the Iranian issue.
These developments also coincide with previous statements by Trump suggesting
that Iran is attempting to reach an agreement regarding its nuclear program.
The simultaneous statements from Washington and Tehran reflect cautious signs of a potential diplomatic opening.
However, they are accompanied by a continued tone of threats and mutual suspicion,
amid Iranian warnings that Israel will be targeted in the event of any potential US strike.
The region is also witnessing increased US military activity.
