Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in a bilateral summit held at the Presidential Palace.
The summit addressed ways to strengthen fraternal relations between the two countries,
and discussed the latest regional developments and ways to defuse crises,
especially the developments in the Gaza Strip.
Gaza is at the forefront of the talks
The Palestinian issue topped the summit’s agenda, with both leaders stressing the need
for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement to ensure lasting stability in the Gaza Strip.
They stressed the importance of supporting US President Donald Trump’s peace plan
and moving forward with its paths in a way that contributes to calming regional conditions.
Both sides also stressed the need to remove all obstacles to the entry of humanitarian aid without restrictions,
and to immediately begin early recovery operations to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Gaza Strip’s population.
No to displacement… a firm stance
President Sisi and King Abdullah II reiterated Egypt and Jordan’s firm stance of
categorically rejecting any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land,
warning of the dangers of violations and arbitrary practices in the West Bank.
They stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders,
with East Jerusalem as its capital, represents the fundamental pillar
for achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.
De-escalation of regional tensions
The summit addressed a number of regional issues,
with the two leaders stressing the importance of reducing escalation and tension in the Middle East,
and the need to resolve crises through peaceful means, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
They agreed to intensify joint political coordination to counter attempts to destabilize the region.
Bilateral cooperation
Regarding bilateral relations, President Sisi and King Abdullah expressed
their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two countries.
They directed preparations for the next session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee,
in order to enhance economic and developmental cooperation
and serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
