Aden, Yemen – A violent exchange of fire took place this afternoon, Friday, in the “Nuqtat al-Irsal” area, west of the city of Ash-Shihr in Hadramawt Governorate, eastern Yemen, between a security force affiliated with the “Homeland Shield Forces” and a group of local gunmen. The clash resulted in casualties on both sides.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that clashes erupted after an armed group (believed to be affiliated with local tribes) attempted to pass through the security checkpoint with their weapons.
The sources stated that a verbal altercation began when soldiers tried to prevent the weapons from passing through or to confiscate them. The situation then quickly escalated into a direct armed confrontation.

According to initial field reports, the victim was either part of the armed group (or a passerby who happened to be in the area). Two to three people were also injured, including one or two soldiers from the “Homeland Shield” force. One of the injured was described as being in critical condition.
