Moscow, Russia – Russian news agencies, citing the Kremlin, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Friday with Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. This meeting comes at a time of increasing political and security coordination between Russia and Iran against the backdrop of rapidly evolving regional and international developments.

The agencies, including Interfax, reported that the meeting took place in Moscow, without disclosing extensive details about its agenda or the issues discussed. The Kremlin, however, simply stated that the meeting was held within the framework of ongoing bilateral consultations between the two countries.

This meeting comes amidst continued close cooperation between Moscow and Tehran on a number of regional issues, most notably the situation in the Middle East. These issues also include regional security and relations with Western countries, at a time when both Russia and Iran are facing increasing Western pressure and sanctions.

Ali Larijani is one of the most prominent political and security figures in Iran, serving as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. This body is responsible for formulating strategic policies in the areas of defense, security, and foreign policy. It also operates under the supervision of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

Larijani recently held a series of meetings with officials in several countries in the region, including Lebanon. During these meetings, he discussed political and security developments, reflecting an active regional role he is playing at present.

No official statements have yet been issued by the Iranian side regarding the content of the meeting with the Russian president. The Kremlin has also not announced any specific results. Meanwhile, there is anticipation regarding the potential outcomes of the Russian-Iranian consultations, given the escalating international tensions and the interconnectedness of regional issues.

The meeting is seen as an extension of a series of high-level contacts between Moscow and Tehran. This underscores the two sides’ commitment to coordinating positions and strengthening their strategic partnership in confronting shared challenges on both the regional and international stages.
