Tel Aviv, Israel – Military circles in Washington and Tel Aviv have raised their readiness levels to “maximum.” This comes amid assessments indicating a possible US military strike against Iran within the next few hours or days. According to an analysis published by the Israeli newspaper Maariv on Friday, the likelihood of a direct confrontation is at its highest level in history.
Zero hour and field indicators
The newspaper asserted that the timeframe for an attack is “very short,” basing this on several strategic indicators. Chief among these is Tehran’s announcement of its intention to conduct naval exercises that could include closing the Strait of Hormuz. Washington considers this a “red line” and believes it necessitates an immediate military response to protect international navigation. Furthermore, the continued arrival of US naval vessels, refueling aircraft, and advanced fighter jets in the region to bolster offensive capabilities is also a factor. Additionally, the head of Israeli military intelligence visited Washington to deliver “crucial information,” and the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM) met with the Israeli Chief of Staff and the commander of the Israeli Air Force.
The Israeli position: Offensive defense
Despite Israel’s official attempts to avoid a direct confrontation, its air force is on “full alert.” There is also a clear message to Washington: “Any direct Iranian ballistic missile attack will be met with an overwhelming Israeli response.”
Beyond Tehran: Multiple Fronts
The analysis revealed that preparations are not limited to the Iranian front. They also include heightened readiness both north and south to confront Iran’s proxies in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Moreover, the question is no longer “Will a confrontation occur?” but “When and how?” This is based on assessments that Iran will not be alone in this conflict, which portends a wider regional war.
