Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denied reports circulating about an extension of the deadline given by the Syrian government to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regarding the future of Hasakah province. An official source at the ministry told SANA news agency on Saturday, “There is no truth to what is being circulated about extending the deadline with the SDF,” emphasizing the government’s commitment to the previously agreed-upon timelines and parameters.
On January 20, the Syrian Presidency announced a joint understanding with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on several issues concerning the future of Hasakah Governorate. It also indicated that the SDF had been given four days to consult and develop a detailed plan for the practical integration of the areas. In this context, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a four-day ceasefire across all sectors of the Syrian Arab Army’s operations. This came in adherence to the announced understandings between the state and the SDF. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ denial comes at a sensitive time. This is occurring amidst close local and international monitoring of developments in Hasakah, where the Syrian government seeks to stabilize the region. It also aims to ensure the implementation of the agreements without any extension or alteration of the established timeframe.
