Tehran, Iran – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the thwarting of a large-scale intelligence plot orchestrated by 10 “hostile and rival” intelligence agencies. The plot aimed to undermine national security, incite internal unrest, and ultimately pose an “existential threat” to the Islamic Republic. The Iranian news agency Tasnim, citing intelligence sources, reported that the plot followed what it termed the “12-day war.” These agencies, operating through a unified command center, also sought to carry out terrorist attacks and mobilize opposition groups to pave the way for foreign military intervention.
The elements of the conspiracy: riots, terrorism, and military intervention.
According to data published by the agency, the plan was based on three main objectives:
Inciting internal unrest: by exploiting social and union loopholes.
Mobilizing hostile groups: Pushing opposition organizations to carry out sabotage operations.
Military intervention: Creating a security pretext that allows for direct military intervention against the country.
In numbers: The results of counterintelligence operations
The Revolutionary Guard’s intelligence organization confirmed that it launched a counter-operation on June 26th. This operation continued until January and yielded significant results on the ground, including:
Arrests: 735 people linked to hostile security networks were detained and summoned.
Preventive measures: 11,000 people from “at-risk” groups were summoned and instructed to raise their awareness.
Foreign networks: 46 individuals identified as members of a network of direct collaborators with foreign intelligence agencies.
Weapons: 743 unlicensed military and hunting weapons were seized, which were intended for use in riots.
“Cognitive intervention” and security preparedness
Sources indicated that the Revolutionary Guard adopted a “cognitive intervention” strategy to manage the depth and breadth of the threat. They also confirmed that the vigilance of security institutions prevented the “enemy command center” from achieving its objectives. This announcement comes amid escalating regional tensions. The announcement sends a message that Tehran has managed to contain a new wave of unrest. This wave was intended to destabilize the country internally following the recent round of military escalation.
