Caracas, Venezuela – Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez announced the appointment of President Nicolás Maduro bodyguard as a minister in the new cabinet. This move has sparked widespread controversy in the country’s political and media circles.

The decision comes as part of a cabinet reshuffle amid escalating political and economic challenges facing Venezuela. Those close to the president believe the appointment reflects the high level of trust placed in the new official within the government, particularly given his previous role in the president’s security.

In contrast, opposition figures viewed the move as prioritizing security considerations over political competence. They pointed out that appointing security figures to ministerial positions reflects the nature of the current phase, which is characterized by a tightening grip on the levers of power.

The appointment of Maduro bodyguard comes at a time when the government is facing internal and external pressures due to the ongoing economic crisis, international sanctions, and sharp political polarization between the government and the opposition.

Observers believe this move goes beyond a mere cabinet reshuffle. It reflects an official trend to consolidate loyalty within the institutions of power, amid fears of unrest or political escalation in the coming period.
