Cairo, Egypt – In an official statement issued today, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Arab Republic of Egypt expressed its full support for the United States’ decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization (SDGT). The Egyptian statement described this step as a “milestone” in the effort to combat extremism and promote international peace and security.
Cairo affirmed that this decision is entirely consistent with Egypt’s longstanding position. This position has repeatedly warned of the dangers of the group’s ideology, which employs violence and incitement to achieve political ends under the guise of religion. The statement also commended the efforts of the current US administration, headed by President Donald Trump, in resolutely confronting transnational terrorist organizations.
The Egyptian government indicated that the recent US designation represents a victory for the national stance Egypt adopted following the June 30, 2013 revolution. It emphasized that the Egyptian people paid a heavy price in the blood of their sons in the armed forces, police, and civilians. This was due to the systematic terrorist operations launched by the organization in its failed attempts to undermine the country’s stability and seize control of its institutions.
The statement stressed that confronting the Muslim Brotherhood is not merely a domestic matter, but a necessity for protecting regional security. Egypt called on the international community to join forces to cut off the financial and ideological resources of all extremist organizations.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by affirming Cairo’s commitment to continuing close coordination with international partners. This coordination aims to combat terrorism in all its forms, in defense of the interests of Egypt, the region, and the world. It also aims to preserve the gains of stability achieved through immense sacrifices.
