Beijing, China – The foreign ministers of China and Sri Lanka discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation during an official meeting focused on expanding political and economic partnerships and strengthening coordination on regional and international issues of common concern.
During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of deepening relations, building on the traditional partnership between Beijing and Colombo, with a focus on cooperation in infrastructure, investment, and trade, as well as supporting Sri Lanka’s economic development efforts.
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized his country’s readiness to continue supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, thereby contributing to improved logistics connectivity and driving growth in South Asian countries.
For his part, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for China’s support, affirming its commitment to deepening the strategic partnership and expanding cooperation to include energy, tourism, and cultural exchange, reflecting the shared interests of both nations.
The discussions also touched upon several regional issues, with both sides emphasizing the importance of dialogue and coordination to maintain stability in Asia and enhance multilateral cooperation in light of the economic and political challenges facing the region and the world.
