Moscow, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had shot down 33 Ukrainian drones over various locations within Russian territory. Moscow described the aerial attack as “extensive and coordinated,” targeting several regions during the night.
In an official statement, the ministry explained that Russian air defense systems successfully engaged the drones. They were destroyed before reaching their targets, and no casualties were reported. The statement also noted that some debris fell in open areas far from populated areas.
The statement added that the attack involved multiple axes. This, according to Moscow, reflects a Ukrainian attempt to test the readiness of Russian air defenses and overwhelm them. This was achieved through simultaneous drone attacks.
These developments come amid the increasing reliance on drones in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. They are being used both to carry out long-range strikes and to achieve psychological and media impact. This coincides with the continuation of ground clashes and mutual political and diplomatic pressure.
Observers believe that the intensification of this type of attack indicates a growing shift in the nature of warfare. Unconventional aerial warfare has become a key element in the course of the conflict, alongside traditional ground operations.
