Damascus, Syria – The official spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied reports circulating in some media outlets that the Syrian army had seized control of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo. He confirmed that the situation in the neighborhood remains tense, with clashes limited and confined to specific areas.
The spokesperson stated that the SDF still controls most of the neighborhood. He added that reports of the Syrian army’s complete control are “inaccurate and constitute an attempt to mislead public opinion.” He explained that SDF units are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and are working to protect civilians and prevent any escalation that could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed that the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood is currently under a state of heightened security alert due to sporadic attempts to advance. The forces are prepared to deal with any threats while maintaining communication channels with relevant parties. The goal is to minimize the impact of the conflict on civilians.
This denial comes amidst reports of Syrian army advances in various parts of Aleppo. This has raised fears of a new escalation in the city, which has been experiencing a fragile security and humanitarian situation for years due to the conflict. Local sources indicated that fear persists among residents as a result of intermittent shelling and limited clashes. They called on all parties to adhere to the ceasefire to protect civilian lives.
The SDF urged the international community to monitor the situation and exert pressure to ensure that the truce agreements are not violated. They emphasized that any attempt to impose control by force could lead to catastrophic consequences in the city.
