Aleppo, Syria – The Aleppo Media Directorate announced on Saturday that the Aleppo Governorate building was targeted by a drone strike.
This occurred while a press conference was being held with Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib, Information Minister Hamza Mustafa, and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Qabawat. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
In a statement, the directorate said the attack occurred while the officials were inside the governorate building.
It described the attack as “an act of aggression that reflects criminal behavior aimed at silencing the media and preventing the truth from reaching the public.”
Targeting government institutions
The statement added that the attack comes amid ongoing attempts to target government institutions, media personnel, and service infrastructure.
This is against the backdrop of developments in Aleppo and its surrounding areas.
And the Aleppo Media Directorate accused the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of being behind the attack.
They asserted that targeting official and media buildings reflects the SDF’s recent weakness and losses.
The directorate added that such attacks pose a direct threat to the security of civilians and the safety of public institutions.
In response, the SDF categorically denied any involvement in the incident. They stated in an official statement that its forces did not target any civilian areas within Aleppo.
False and baseless accusations
The SDF described the accusations as “false and baseless,” emphasizing its commitment to not targeting civilian facilities.
This development comes as the Syrian Arab Army’s Operations Command announced a halt to military operations in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo.
And this was effective Saturday afternoon, along with arrangements for the evacuation of militants from certain positions.
Additionally, this includes the handover of health and government facilities to state institutions.
However, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied the Syrian Defense Ministry’s ceasefire announcement.
They asserted that their forces were still repelling what they described as an ongoing attack.
These developments reflect the continued security tensions in Aleppo. There are mutual accusations between the parties involved and conflicting accounts of events on the ground.
